Deja Vu In The Tasting Room
Louise Rhodes
Jun 25, 2025
EVER HAD THAT FEELING YOU'VE BEEN SOMEWHERE BEFORE....
In 2019, Rob & I opened up the front room of our 1880 built home in Willunga. We popped a signboard out on our street and we hoped.
"Aphelion Tasting Room Bookings By Appointment" it said.
People did indeed book! Folks entered as strangers became friends, with our nosy pets, our children (who started so small and charming and became older & bolder!) and of course Rob & I.
For five years - interrupted somewhat by COVID - you took a chance on a tasting in a house for wine that couldn't be bought in a shop.
Lucky the wine was pretty good!
It was a privilege to meet wine lovers from all walks of life and connect with you, hearing your stories over a splash of Grenache.
Covid and our growing family made it tricky in the later years. You had to walk right through our kitchen and living room to get to the loo so there was A LOT of tidying going on to contain the toysplosion. It became my job to take the kids for an extended walk or bike ride so that Rob could share our wines with you minus too much junior exuberance.
Then it happened.
A place we knew. That felt welcoming. That connected with the land. Where we wanted to spend time. It came up for lease!
Back in 2015 we used to be welcomed by the hospitality of Lisa Robertson and Andrew Wood in this very space. We sat around barrels or on the verandah, chatted with Andrew and sipped Waywood Wines. We brought our visiting friends there, too. It felt like our kinda place. It felt how we hope it felt in our front room. We sought the Wood's blessing.
And signed the lease!
It is now a year since we opened the doors to Aphelion Cellar Door on July 12, 2024.
We have welcomed many more of you to become friends, part of the Aphelion family, in this space filled with so much heart and hope. You bring your visiting friends here now, which is such a special, full circle moment, every single time.
Come and celebrate with us.

Was your first tasting at cellar door, or our Willunga home? How did you hear about us? What was it like? What occasions & with who have you enjoyed any wines you took home?
We would love to know as we reflect on this first trip around the sun in our new Aphelion home.
P.S There is a house behind our new cellar door so it really does feel like home!
