Should We Use the CAPR Closure on Our Welkin Range?

Should We Use the CAPR Closure on Our Welkin Range?

By Louise Rhodes Mack, Founder & Creative Director, Aphelion Wine Co.

At Aphelion, we’re always searching for ways to make great wine with purpose - balancing beauty, flavour, and sustainability. Our recent exploration of the Interpack CAPR closure system has opened up an exciting question:

Should we introduce this recyclable, split-sleeve closure on our Welkin range?

What’s the CAPR System?

The CAPR closure is an innovative new cap and neck design. You open the bottle as normal, enjoy your wine, and when you’re finished, you simply slide the aluminium sleeve down. It splits along a scored line so that the aluminium and glass can be recycled separately.

It’s simple. Elegant. And designed to help keep more aluminium and glass out of landfill — something that’s increasingly important to us as a small, environmentally conscious winery.

If you haven’t seen it yet, watch our short video showing the CAPR system in action.

Why We’re Considering It for Welkin

Our Welkin range celebrates the pure joy of wine — vibrant, approachable, expressive bottles designed for weeknight dinners, picnics, and spontaneous celebrations.

It’s also the range where we love to experiment. New grape sources. New packaging ideas. New ways to connect with you.

The CAPR closure feels like a natural fit — but before we make the call, we want to hear from the people who know our wines best: you.

We’d Love Your Thoughts

Would you support Aphelion using the CAPR closure on our Welkin wines?

  • Do you like the idea of a premium-looking bottle that’s also easier to recycle?
  • Would you take the few extra seconds to slide and separate the aluminium from the glass when you’ve finished your bottle?
  • Does visible sustainability make you more likely to choose a wine?

We know packaging decisions can be surprisingly emotional — they influence how a wine looks, feels, and fits into your life. That’s why we want you to have a say before we make any change.

Your Voice Shapes Our Future

As a small, family-owned winery, we can move quickly — and that means our community’s input really does influence what we do next. The CAPR closure is one step in a bigger sustainability journey, but whether we take it for the Welkin range depends, in part, on what you tell us here.

Comment below or DM us to share your thoughts. Would you support this move toward more recyclable packaging? Do you have feedback or questions about how it works?

Your insights help us balance sustainability with style — and ensure that every Aphelion bottle continues to feel as good as it tastes.
